Fruting Body 30-50 mm broad, globose to cushion-shaped. Peridium more than 1 mm thick, smooth when young, developing large cracks and scales (1-4 mm dia.) and becoming areolate in age, yellow to yellowish brown, peridium flesh white to yellow, staining purple when cut. Gleba at first dark purplish black with white streaks becoming dark grayish brown. Spores dark brown. Edibility: poisonous.
