Cap 50-80 mm broad x 2-4 mm thick, semicircular to fan-shaped or irregular in outline, sometimes resupinate to shelflike, tough and woody, finely tomentose to glabrous, radially wrinkled, deep orangish red to deep red, sometimes with white concentric zones, fading slowly to salmon-colored in weathered specimens. Pores round,5-6 per mm, deep red; tubes in a single layer, 1-2 mm long. Stem absent. Spore Deposit white. Edibility: edible but too tough to eat.
