Fruiting Bodies 80-400 mm broad x 70-150 mm radius x 30-60 mm thick, irregularly semicircular to shelflike, upper surface concentrically ridged, lumpy, dry, glabrous, dark brown to black with a paler brown, zonate margin; flesh hard, woody, chocolate brown Pores round, 3-4 per mm, white, bruising reddish brown to dark brown; tubes in several layers (perennial), each layer 2-7 mm thick. Stem absent. Spore deposit yellowish brown. Edibility: edible but too tough to eat.
