Cap 15-50 mm broad, hemispherical to convex or broadly convex, smooth, glabrous, viscid when young, cream or yellow to pale yellowish brown overall. Gills adnate, subdistant, broad, dull brown (sepia) with pale edges. Stem 30-50 x 2-5 mm, cylindrical, dry, striate, pruinose, pale ochraceous to yellowish brown. SporeDeposit brown. Edibility: not recommended.
Another little brown mushroom of lawns, Agrocybe pediades, has a convex cap that often becomes cracked with age. This species is smaller than A. retigera and lacks the rugulose pitted cap surface. Although edible, we recommend against eating this mushroom because it can be confused with similar looking poisonous species. Is: HA, KA.
