Latin glabratus, to make bald, alluding to the lack of scales as compared with var. horridum.
Scattered distribution in the same habitats as var. horridum, all major islands.
Asplenium horridum var. glabratum is similar to var. horridum, but largely glabrous in its extreme manifestation. There is a continuum in the degree of scaliness between var. glabratum and very scaly plants.
Variety glabratum may be distinguished from var. horridum by the lack of scales on the stipes, rachises, and costae.
