Distribution In the Hawaiian Islands, endemic to Kaua`i, O`ahu, Moloka`i, Lana`i, Maui, Hawai`i.
Habit Shrubs or trees up to 15 m tall; branches longitudinally ridged, golden brown strigose, glabrate with age.
Leaves Leaflets (1-)12-20, alternate or opposite (in a single individual), oblong-elliptic, oblong-obovate, or oblong-ovate, sometimes elliptic or obovate, 0.7-5 cm long, 0.3-2.3 cm wide, upper surface sparsely to moderately strigose or glabrate, lower surface sparsely to densely strigose (hairs golden brown, turning gray), apex rounded to obtuse, ± emarginate, base cuneate, rachis channeled, petioles 0.6-2.7 cm long, petiolules 0.5-2 mm long.
Flowers Flowers in terminal and axillary racemes, pedicels 6-30 mm long; calyx asymmetrically hemispherical, 4-12 mm long, moderately to densely strigose; corolla yellow, glabrous, standard ovate, obovate, suborbicular, or elliptic, 11.5-21 mm long, 8-20 mm wide, erect to slightly reflexed, the claw 3-8 mm long, wings oblong-lanceolate to oblong or elliptic, 12-28 mm long, the claw 3-5.5 mm long, keel elliptic to oblong or ovate, 14-25 mm long, the claw 2-6 mm long.
Fruit Pods moniliform, moderately to strongly constricted between the seeds, 2-16 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide (incl. wings), the wings 1-7 mm wide, sparsely to densely strigose.
Seeds Seeds brown to grayish black, ellipsoid to subglobose, moderately compressed, 4-8 mm long.
