Distribution In the Hawaiian Islands, endemic to Lana`i, Maui.
Habit Monoecious, decumbent or occasionally erect shrubs 10-40 cm tall; stems apically and intricately branched, often appearing dichotomously branched, capitate glandular and scabrid on young stems.
Leaves Leaves sclerophyllous, linear, strongly involute in mature foliage, oblanceolate to spatulate in juvenile foliage, (12-)15-30(-34) mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, glandular punctate and sparsely strigose, margins entire and strigose. Flowers
Flowers Heads solitary, peduncles (2.7-)4-12(-16) cm long, capitate glandular with short, stout hairs, bracts filiform; involucre broadly hemispherical, 5-7 mm high, 9-15 mm in diameter, bracts (60-)65-80, linear-lanceolate, capitate glandular abaxially and marginally, scarious hyaline-margined, erose at apex, acuminate; receptacle (2.7-)3-5 mm in diameter; ray florets 150-250 per head, in 2 series, rays white, 4-6 mm long, 0.4-0.7 mm wide; disk florets functionally male, 70-100 per head, corollas yellow, narrowly funnelform, 3.5-4.5 mm long, the tube 1.5-2 mm long; anther appendages short-deltate, 0.04-0.05 mm long; pappus white, 2-3 mm long.
Fruit Achenes oblanceoloid, 2-3 mm long, fertile achenes 0.5-0.9 mm wide, glandular strigose, the glands amber-colored, faces 1-2-nerved.
