The UVAL Herbarium was created in 1974 for education. In 1990, a formal reference collection was established and became the official herbarium of the Del Valle University of Guatemala. It currently has more than 20,000 records, among ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms. The main objective is to be a collection of the Guatemalan flora, open to the public, used as a reference for various studies by students and researchers. The main interests are tropical taxonomy, ethnobiology, ecology, and forests restoration.
